Grade 3 braille is a densely contracted form of English braille. It is the mission of this web-site to encourage the proliferation of this braille code.

Grade 3 braille is an efficient and empowering tool for literate braille readers. Here you will find electronic materials in grade 3 braille as well as clear explanations of all the rules and contractions. Translation software is being developed.

Note: Contracted braille is represented on this site by ASCII characters and a simulated braille font. If you are using a refreshable braille display, you will need to turn off any braille translation in your screen reader to view the grade 3 braille properly. Conversely, in order to understand the braille represented by these symbols via speech output alone, it will be necessary to know the dot patterns associated with the ASCII characters. There is a chart of the ASCII characters and their braille dot patterns here.
